Railroad Engineering and Activities Club

The Railroad Engineering and Activities Club (REAC) at Michigan Technological University (MTU) is an organization of students interested in establishing contacts with, learning about, getting involved with, and a hair’s breadth away from being obsessed with the railroad and transportation industries in the United States of America and beyond.

The club functions in a close relationship with MTU's Rail Transportation Program (RTP) and exists to provide students with opportunities to learn more about train systems and establish contacts with faculty and industry personnel. REAC was also the first official student chapter of The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and many other student rail organizations from various universities have followed suit.

REAC is recognized by MTU as an official student organization (Constitution), providing some financial support and opportunities to participate in and plan events on-campus. The majority of funding for REAC and its events, however, comes from railroad companies interested in cultivating a group of engineering students interested in the railroad industry from which to recruit the next generation of their employee base.
