Railroad Engineering Activities Club (REAC) at Michigan Tech became the 1st official Student Chapter of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association in 2006, with the mission of connecting students with the industry though AREMA and student-led activities.
REAC is the student organization affialiate of the RTP, and is comprised of students interested in establishing contacts with, learning about, getting involved with, and a hair’s breath away from being obsessed with the railroad and transportation industries in America and beyond.
REAC's primary focus is a monthly "General Business Meeeting", where members meet to discuss the industry, particularly in terms of jobs, scholarships, internships, and of course all of the various topics of the railroad industry. Each meeting is built around a 30-45 minute featured presentation, led by some member of the railroad industry.
REAC also hosts several field trips annually, which generally include a local fall trip, and a more distant and involved spring event. Members also travel to the annual AREMA conference, and hold volunteer opprotunities a local historical and railroad-themed organizations, such as the Quincy Mine and Lake Linden and Torch Lake Railroad and Museum.
